Eddie [8/1/06, 1:04 AM] writes:
I am a volunteer for a local rescue. I had been taking care of one of the rescue's senior pups, who was in kidney failure, for 14 months. He had become my best friend and even thought he was the rescue's pup, he was MY dog. His condition took a sudden turn for the worse and I was able to spend the last 7 hours of his life with him at the loving foster home of my fellow volunteer, Joe. When Cy aka Honey Bear, could no longer walk, eat or drink I decided that I had to keep my promise I had made to him months earlier. That I would not make him stay here on this earth longer than he wanted to, longer than he could without losing his dignity. Animal Ambulance was called and arrived in about two hours. They were vey calm and patient with us. Cy was able to cross the bridge in his own house, on his own bed, being held and kissed by me and his loving foster dad, instead of in a strange, cold place surrounded by strangers. He was with us for such a short time but in that time I learned more from him, and I believed that he knew that he was loved and cherished by both Joe and myself. I want to thank you guys for helping to make his final moments as peaceful as possible.

I am very impressed at your dedication to help and save animals. Keep up the good work.
Now, I am a bit confused. EM T's are certified to transport human patients to other medical facilities or hospitals. To be able to transport an animal in an ambulance and provide them with pre-hospital treatment, What type of certification did you have to go through to be able to provide this type of treatment to animals? May be an EMT course specifically for animals?
Please let me know.
